Jersey City Deputy Mayor Discusses City Government with Students and Faculty

Jersey City Deputy Mayor Vivian Brady-Phillips came to the McIntyre Conference Center at 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 on Thursday, December 3 to discuss city government and the importance of community and public service initiatives with students and faculty members.

Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillip鈥檚 presentation was part of Pizza & Politics, an annual event series hosted by the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership at 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 University.

During her discussion, Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillips touched upon several of her roles, which included collaborating on community service projects, developing greater investment in social services and increasing the exposure of career opportunities to youths through initiatives such as Jersey City Summer Works and the Jersey City Internship program.

鈥淚 always wanted to be engaged with the community somehow and I feel lucky that I get to do this as part of my work every day,鈥 said Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillips.

Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillips also discussed the city鈥檚 efforts to help the local business community such as working to secure grants and learning how to revitalize the climate so that it is more receptive to businesses. In addition, she emphasized the importance of working with college students through providing them internships in the mayor鈥檚 office as well as in various departments.

鈥淚t鈥檚 an enormous help to us, but it鈥檚 also helpful for them to understand what鈥檚 happening in the city government,鈥 she added. 鈥淚nternships are a great way for students to see if city government is something in which they might be interested.鈥
