Jersey City, N.J. 鈥 July 16, 2014 鈥 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 University today announced the appointment of Sylvain Jaume, Ph.D., as director of the master鈥檚 program in data science with a concentration in business analytics at 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 University. Jaume has extensive experience in academic and industrial research in electrical engineering, computer science and data science as well as in program management and curriculum development. The 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 data science degree program is the first of its kind in the N.Y./N.J. area and classes will be offered beginning in the fall of 2014.
鈥淲e have high aspirations for our cutting-edge program in data science,鈥 said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 University. 鈥淲e are working with a number of industry partners on our curriculum and we believe Dr. Jaume will serve as a tremendous asset as we move forward with the launch of the program this fall.鈥
Prior to joining 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚, Jaume was the director of interdisciplinary engineering at the Wentworth Institute of Technology. He taught subjects in engineering and computer science and established many international collaborations. During his career he developed large data analysis and medical imaging technologies, which are used in hospitals and in collaboration with the Intel Corporation.
鈥淚n today鈥檚 world, data is becoming a larger part of the strategic planning process in a wide-variety of industries,鈥 said Jaume. 鈥淭he growing importance of big data is what makes the data science program at 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 even more relevant and my vision is to establish international recognition for this valuable program. I am very excited to join the community at the University and I look forward to working with everyone on campus.鈥
Jaume earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Universite Catholique de Louvain. He was a research fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School. He is the author of many research publications and is the recipient of awards for academic achievement.
The master鈥檚 program in data science at 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 University integrates computer science, statistics and data-based business management principles to inform data driven decision making. The program was developed to align with the 鈥渂est of industry applied practice鈥 in big data solutions. The curriculum reflects the most current approaches to the management of data science technology as developed by leaders in the industry such as the Oracle Corporation.
