WOMEN鈥橲 BASKETBALL STAR TO REPRESENT SPC
AT NCAA LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

April 29, 2003— Jersey City, NJ– 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 College junior women鈥檚 basketball guard Lindsay Gonzalez (Haverstraw, NY) has been chosen by the NCAA to attend the 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference from May 25-29 at Disney鈥檚 Wide World of Sport鈥檚 Complex. She is one of 273 student-athletes selected from a group of 1172 nominations. 
 
The Conference is a product of the NCAA鈥檚 CHAMPS/Life Skills program, which 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 participates in, that helps student-athletes focus on five focal points: 猫咪社区; Athletics; Personal Development; Career Enhancement and Service.  During the five-day leadership conference, student-athletes have the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics, which include the demands and expectations of student-athletes; inclusion education; international student-athlete experiences; recruiting visits; student-athlete responsibility; party behaviors; trust gaps within intercollegiate athletics; and sportsmanship. 
 
鈥淟indsay is a great example of what 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 College student-athletes are,鈥 said Erika Rigby, the College鈥檚 Academic/Athletic Coordinator and administrator of the school鈥檚CHAMPS/Life Skills program. 鈥淭his conference will allow Lindsay another opportunity to develop her talents and our campus will benefit from her leadership skills.鈥
 
Criteria for selection include the student-athletes’ demonstrated ability and strong desire to be a leader and the student-athletes’ potential to benefit significantly from a leadership development experience.
 
Gonzalez comes off a stellar junior season that saw her gain All-MAAC first-team honors. She was second in the league in assists with 4.78 per game and added 11.1 points an outing to lead the 14-14 Peahens. The Dean鈥檚 List student was recently named to the Criminal Justice national honor society. She is active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and numerous community service activities, including tutoring, youth coaching and the MAAC Gives Back program.
 
 鈥淚 admire Lindsay tremendously,鈥 猫咪社区 Peter鈥檚 Head Women鈥檚 Basketball Coach Mike Granelli said. 鈥淪he is a leader on our team and the entire student body. She will be a great ambassador for the College.鈥
 
猫咪社区 Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, 猫咪社区 Peter’s has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City and a branch campus, specializing in adult education, is located in Englewood Cliffs. 猫咪社区 Peter’s also offers classes in downtown Jersey City near the waterfront financial district.
