SAINT PETER’S COLLEGE WILL HONOR FOUR
AT ITS 12TH ANNUAL DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS
April 4, 2003– Jersey City, NJ– èßäÉçÇø Peter’s College will recognize the achievements of three prominent alumni and one longtime member of the school’s Board of Regents when it holds its 12th Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner on Thursday, April 10 at the Hyatt Regency on the Hudson in Jersey City. The honorees include Pamela Miller (Hackensack, NJ), Dr. John Connolly (Orlando, FL), Peter Sheridan (Princeton Junction, NJ) and James McLaughlin, Jr. (Jersey City, NJ).

Information about the honorees follows below:
About Dr. John Connolly
Dr. Connolly, a 1957 graduate of èßäÉçÇø Peter’s College, will be honored for his professional achievements. The 1961 New Jersey Medical School graduate is one of the nation’s leading figures in orthopaedic surgery and currently is the Academic Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. The former Captain in the United States Air Force has spent the last 35 years involved in academic orthopaedic surgical education, research and patient care at several prominent institutions including Vanderbilt University, University of Nebraska College of Medicine, the Creighton University-Nebraska University joint venture in orthopaedics, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children and the University of Miami. Along with receiving numerous awards and grants to support his research efforts in promoting bone and cartilage repair, Dr. Connolly has authored more than 200 published works, including the two-volume Atlas of Fractures and Dislocations, which is used around the world. Dr. Connolly returned to èßäÉçÇø Peter’s last year to officially launch theJoseph E. Schuh, S. J. Endowed Professorship in the Pre-Medical Health and Natural Sciences made possible through his $1.3 million donation, one of the largest gifts in school history. Dr. Connolly and his wife Anne have six children and reside in Orlando, FL.
About Pamela Miller
Miller is a 1977 graduate of èßäÉçÇø Peter’s College who will be honored for her service to the community. She currently serves as Vice President for Enterprise Strategy and Quality at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey. The 1985 Seton Hall University School of Law graduate is a member of numerous professional and legal associations including the American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association, Garden State Bar Association and the American Association of Health Lawyers. She was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar in 2000. Prior to joining Horizon Blue Cross, Miller served asDeputy Commissioner of Environmental Health Service for the City of New York and Director of the Hudson County Department of Environmental and Public Health. Along with her numerous professional achievements, Miller serves as a member of many community boards, including the Valerie Fund, the Newark Renaissance House, the Urban League of Hudson County as Chair and the College’s Board of Regents. She, along with her husband Christian and two children – Shymore and Yemisi – reside in Hackensack, NJ.
About Peter Sheridan
Peter Sheridan is a 1972 graduate of èßäÉçÇø Peter’s College who will be honored for his loyalty to his alma mater. The 1977 Seton Hall University School of Law graduate has never forgotten his undergraduate roots. He has served on the College’s Alumni Board, as Chair of the Board of Regents and currently is a member of the Board of Trustees. He played a major role in the success of last year’s Business Symposium and participates in many College initiatives, including the Campaign for Leadership, the Jesuit Board Dinner, the Legal Reception and the President’s Reception. A partner in the law firm of Graham, Curtin & Sheridan in Trenton, with broad experience in litigation and governmental affairs, Sheridan was active in state government during the Kean and Florio administrations. Sheridan later took a leave of absence from his law practice to serve as Executive Director of the Republican State Committee during the Whitman Administration. The author of several published articles, Sheridan and his wife Barbara reside in Princeton Junction and are the parents of Peter, Thomas, and Katie.
About James.McLaughlin, Jr.
James McLaughlin, Jr., a St. Peter’s Prep and Notre Dame University graduate, will be honored as an honorary èßäÉçÇø Peter’s College alumnus. He represented Jersey City’s West Side on the City Council and currently owns and operates McLaughlin Funeral Home on Journal Square. McLaughlin remains active in the Jersey City community as Chair of the Hudson Health Systems Agency Steering Committee and the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency as well as being a Board member for Patrick House, Medical Center Foundation, and the Medical Center Hospital. He is past president of the Jersey City Boys Club, which recently honored him with a community service award. He has been a member of the College’s Board of Regents since 1993 and has served as its Chair. He served as a co-chair of the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner in 1997, and has participated in the Business Symposium and took part in the feasibility study and discussions that are bringing the pedestrian bridge to the College’s campus. He was a generous supporter of both the College’s Campaign for the Second Century in 1983 and the recently completed Campaign for Leadership. McLaughlin and his wife Mary Ellen have four married daughters – Maureen, Claire, Megan and Maryellen – and reside in Jersey City.
